5 Bedroom Detached House, Marston Meysey, Wiltshire, SN6 6LQ

Property Description

The Middle House, reputedly the oldest house in the village, is a spacious, detached 17th century Grade II listed family house built of Cotswold limestone under a Cotswold stone tiled roof. It is approached through an attractive central oak front door set within a moulded stone door case. Throughout the house are many period features including oak internal doors, exposed wide, oak floorboards, large limestone fireplaces, exposed beams and limestone mullion, leaded-light windows. The property has been the subject of a comprehensive scheme of sympathetic renovation with a refurbished, insulated roof and leaded-light windows in the original style. Oak flooring has also been laid to both main reception rooms with limestone flagstones to the central hallway and cloakroom, creating a striking entrance to this characterful home. The Dining Hall/Library has fitted bookcases. To the rear is a fitted kitchen breakfast room with gas-fired Aga and a useful adjoining utility room. A study completes the ground floor and provides ladder access to a loft, currently used as a playroom. On the first floor is a master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, a second bedroom and family bathroom. To the second floor are three further bedrooms. All four main bedrooms are generously sized.

Situation
The attractive village of Marston Meysey lies on the Wiltshire/Gloucestershire borders and is well located for the local market towns of Fairford and Cricklade which both provide a good range of everyday shops and services, with a wider choice at the ancient Roman town of Cirencester. The main regional centres include Cheltenham, Oxford, Swindon, Bath and Bristol, all of which are within daily commuting distance. There is also good access, about 2 miles to the A419 for dual carriageway access to Junction 15 of the M4 at Swindon and to the north, the M5 motorway. The village has a church, village hall and popular pub, The Old Spotted Cow. There are regular mainline trains from Kemble or Swindon to London Paddington (approx. one hour).

There is an excellent choice of private and state schools in the area. Of the latter, Farmor's School in Fairford is particularly well regarded. Private schools include Pinewood, St Hugh's, Hatherop Castle, Beaudesert and Prior Park.

Outside
To the front of the property there is a wrought iron pedestrian gate set into a stone wall and high hedge with an old, herringbone stone path which leads to the front door. A gravelled drive, shared with the neighbouring property leads to a parking area and a stone detached garage with up-and-over door, light and power. To side, adjoining the gardens and front of the house, is a patio, with stable door to the kitchen. The rear gardens are divided by a stone wall and are enclosed and protected by high hedges to both side boundaries. The gardens are mostly laid to lawn and enjoy a number of mature fruit trees and a magnificent walnut tree. There are expansive views to the fields beyond, with a five bar gate giving access to a bridleway. In all, the plot extends to about 0.66 acres.
