The Turnbull building is arguably one of Newcastle's most desirable blocks. Housing the first million pound property in Newcastle it was built on top of the mansion of Lord Armstrong and converted into a warehouse by ironmongers. It now only houses Newcastle's finest and provides luxury living to those lucky enough to live here.
Turnbull's Warehouse, viewed here from the north end of the High Level Bridge, was built on the site of Lord Armstrong's mansion in the late 1890s.
Originally occupied by the printers R. Robinson & Co. it was subsequently taken over in 1963 by Messrs E. & F. Turnbull, a Newcastle-based ironmongers,
who used it as a wholesale warehouse. In 2002 the building was redeveloped by Northern Land and the architect Bill Hopper as luxury loft style apartments.
This one bedroom apartment has been strikingly designed to offer maximum living space and optimum comfort all encased in a loft that offers panoramic views over the Quayside and beyond. The building itself is accessed by secure entry gates and offers concierge service at the front desk, along with a stylish waiting area for guests of the residents. A lift elevates you up over plank style walkways that are in keeping with the warehouse feel. The doors are large loft style openings illuminated in colour and welcome you in to your open plan living area.
The living room is a contemporary conversion that embraces its exposed tiles and wooden beams above, a grey fabric corner sofa occupies the living area and a white dining table and chairs. The kitchen is elevated above and has fitted appliances such as fridge freezer, oven hob, dishwasher and many more. The master bedroom leads off from the hall area and is carpeted in a versatile grey luxurious carpet that you instantly sink into, it has a double size and free standing wardrobes and also an en-suite with WC, basin and double shower cubicle. The second bedroom/study is slightly smaller and is currently presented as a study with a large desk and stylish chair. A family bathroom is situated near the entrance and is tiled with WC, basin and bath with over head shower.
